1. Engage your strategic planning team in brainstorming possible collaborations that will help you grow your credit union.

2. Consider doing two separate brainstorms. The first to identify collaborations that would help you reduce costs and improve efficiency, and the second focused on new ways to generate revenues and returns.

3. Remember–get the ideas on the table first, then evaluate them against the CHOICE principles presented in the video.

What is the definition of social media? Facebook? Twitter? YouTube? Some may think that this is social media. However, it is important to note that these are the tools, channels and technology of social media and not the action of social media.

When we talk about social media as a marketing channel, many are intimidated on how they can best use it to market a product or service. Furthermore, many executives brush social media off as “kids play” and it’s too much technology to worry about it. Merging Onto the Collaboration Highway

Working together often sounds better (and easier) than it actually is.

Countless examples could be cited where despite the clear advantages to be gained from collaborating, there came a point in the discussions where concerns about loss of control, loss of identity, sharing of rewards, transitions of personnel, or any one of a long list of other considerations caused the process to break down.

This has been especially true within the credit union industry where the ties to original fields of membership are incredibly strong and where maintaining independence is often seen as a key component of success. (more…)
